A
new chapter of the TJ Band is born with Gary 'Wardo' Ward forming a
reknowned percussive engine room with my old buddy Mick Duncombe on
bass.
Mick
and Wardo go back a fair ways as the basis of the 'Scruffy Red
Dogs'. Wardo had short but defining pro-career with 'Kickback'
way back in the heady days of pub-rock when blues & rock gigs were
abounding around the Midland pubs. Mick and I pioneered the
fun-packed boogie days at the Paget Arms when we forged a path with the
'Red-Eyes Bluesband'. We enjoyed playing to some large gatherings
who shared the love of 3-piece band that could play the same set list
in ways that baffled Mick and everyone present every time !!!
Same songs, but never the same at the next gig !!!!.....Bit like
'Cream' - no-one knew what was coming...Great laughs...
I've
always admired Wardo's relaxed style of driving straight rock drumming
- very reminiscent of Brian Downey, for those familiar with Thin Lizzie
stuff - Never really 'breaking sweat' but you somehow feel there is an
express steam train in the back line !!!
I
bow at Wardo's feet for another reason in that one of the first gigs he
ever played was support to my hero 'Rory Gallagher' in Belfast.
Now there is a tale to dine out on !!!!
The 'Next Chapter' of the 'Trio' is well underway with
' mastercraftsman Gary 'Wardo' Ward .....and he is now 'the house' drummer at our informal relaxed gig - 'Room 4 The Blues'.
See the 'Gigs' section for Wardo's debut.....
