It was the late 1960's when Tim Jenks set about changing the face of church music in St Jude's, Wolverhampton. He swapped acoustic strumming for a cheap Les Paul copy guitar and began grinding out a boogie blues approach to music with a message that raised eyebrows in churches throughout the Midlands and Northern England where Coffee Bars were playing host to live gospel music bands.

With so many gigs available to play in the '70's, Tim abandoned his teaching career to form 'Aaron' with the Stuart Penny, Eddie Phillips, Trevor Howard and Colin Burke, a pro-unit that would complete 3 years on the road - 1 year touring England's pubs -  and 2 years spent touring schools and colleges in the USA.

A family affair...

Family commitment slowed down output throughout the '80's but Tim's love of playing the blues got the better of him in the '90's.  A joke in the pub turned a blues jam session into a popular 3-piece band the 'Red Eyes Bluesband'.  Personnel came and went but with Tim's eldest son, Danny Jenks coming of age as a class drummer alongside veteran bassman Mick Duncombe, 'Tim Jenks & Band' demonstrated a relaxed enjoyment of 3-piece 'freeform' guitar, bass and drums antics made famous by the likes of Tim's heroes Rory Gallagher and Texas boogie men ZZ Top.  Danny has since moved on with his own band projects and family-hood, but Tim and Mick press on with Danny when possible - or the 'multi-band-mercenary' Gary 'Waldo' Ward.....when he's free!

A moving feast of line-ups!!!

The main line-up functions alongside 'TJ's Trio'... Tim has a 4-piece with his old bass and vocal sidesman John Martin along with Julian Parkes on keyboards who used to watch Tim and John through his youth in the 70's.  This line-up is completed by ex-Climax Blues Band drummer, George Newsome.  George's style is prefectly suited to the more laid back bluesy approach that Tim's orginal material is founded on. (George will often be found on the drum-stool in 'The 12Bar') A whole catalogue of material dating back over 4 decades in the set list with and the CD 'Tear Down the Wall' is now available from TJ Music...click on gigs for details.  Yet another line-up has now emerged with George and ex-UXL bassman Dan Clark.  Dan provides musical guidance from the bass sidesmen position where a more cabaret style approach is needed with laid back bluesy rock.  Dan joins the team of George & Julian for 'Christmas Carol Rocks'.

We rock on in 2012 - The album for Christmas, 'Realms of Glory' did very well.  Both concerts where an extended line-up performed all the tracks - plus more ...was well attended. 'The 12 Bar'...gig is has new faces appearing every time Tim & Mick, Dan C, George, Wardo & Danny J gather a band for a jam...email me to find out more..
